Compost
Here at Lymefield Garden Centre and Tea Room in Broadbottom, we have always aimed to stock an excellent range of composts in order to meet the varying needs of gardeners in the area. Different gardens, different plants and different situations dictate which growing media you may require but we will always find the right one to suit your scenario. Our most popular compost is the J. Arthur Bowers Multi-Purpose Compost, which we sell frequently thanks to its versatility, low price and excellent quality. Some of the other composts and mixes which we sell include:
Multi-Purpose with John Innes Compost – This compost creates a perfect balance between a nutrient rich compost, and a compost with enough substance to retain water and last for a long period, so it is ideal for container use.
Ericaceous Compost – If you have Heathers, Azaleas, Camellias, Hydrangeas, Rhododendrons or any other type of acid-favouring plant then you need Ericaceous Compost. The soil around our area (Cheshire/Manchester) varies greatly so a simple soil PH test would be ideal before planting in to the ground, but if you are potting up your acid-loving plant, then this compost is perfect for that too.
John Innes No.2 and No.3 – Both of these composts are of the highest quality but are reasonably priced. No.2 is of a more gritty texture, providing good drainage, whilst No.3 makes a perfect container compost.
Gro-Bags – As well as the traditional gro-bags, we have also started stocking Levington Tomorite Tomato Planters which contain a better quality of compost and more of it in which to get your Tomatoes going. We also provide an all round Veg-Planter Compost which shares the quality and quantity of the Levington Tomorite bags.
Blended Farm Manure – We have a choice of Claverings excellent quality blend of farm yard manure and mushroom compost, as well J. Arthur Bowers’ blended manure. Both are ideal for improving overall soil quality within beds, adding vast amounts of nutrients as well as helping to break down clay and improve drainage.
Top Soil – Whether you are seeding your lawn, looking to lay down some turf or raising the level of your beds, our top soil is of an excellent quality. It is a loam-based soil and so we usually recommend mixing in some manure with it if you are planning on planting in to it.
Lawn Dressing – Perfect for improving your turf quality, helping with drainage and levelling off your lawn, lawn dressing is easy to apply and is a cost effective way of keeping your lawn looking healthy. We have found ours being used regularly by groundsman for cricket pitches, golf courses and rugby pitches alike.
