Perennials & Alpine

Lymefield Garden Centre | Perennials & Alpine

Perennials are plants that last from season to season often dying back in the winter and remerging in the spring. They can be lifted and divided in the spring if they out grow their space and offer a wide range of colours, shapes and sizes. Mostly trouble free and reliable they can be used as ‘fillers’ or used to create a whole border display. There are plants for hot, dry, sunny positions through to wet, shady areas that provide colour from spring through to autumn. Pick the best plants with the right requirements to suit your area.

If covering a reasonable area, plant in groups of odd numbers to create a more natural effect. As a general rule plant larger specimens at the back graduating down to smaller varieties, unless in an island bed where tall plants are best planted in the centre.

Alpines are plants suitable for rock gardens, again there is a diverse range of plants to create colour through out the seasons. A sunny well-drained site is preferable for most alpines although those that prefer a cooler more shady aspect can be planted in the niches created by the rocks. There are upright alpines or trailing alpines for growing in and on walls.

This has only lightly touched on the subject so for more advice on our wide range of plants and those that will be suitable for your requirement we are only happy to help, call in or contact us.
