We started growing turf here at Lymefield Garden Centre Broadbottom around 2002 when we realised that there was a demand for ready-to-lay lawn turf in the Cheshire and Manchester area that was not being met. The fields down here on our farm which had previously been used for grazing were soon prepared and transformed by ourselves for the purpose of growing turf.
Our lifting process involves one tractor, and one rear-mounted turfing machine, which is manned by one of us, lifting each roll off the conveyor belt as they come and onto a pallet. Each roll is 1 square yard in size. We lift the turf nightly in preparation for the following day’s orders, or sometimes even the same day as a delivery is due ensuring that it is as fresh as possible when it arrives to you.
The turf is a blend of amenity and fine seed which provides an all-round, long lasting and hard wearing lawn, which can withstand the rigours of everyday use, or alternatively can be mowed short and maintained over time to become a more refined, ornamental lawn.
Our turf can now be found in the front and rear gardens of homes across Derbyshire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and even further afield, and it is now regarded as one of the most reliable and easy to work with for landscapers throughout our area.
We use all of our own equipment and try our best to keep the use of chemicals during preparation to an absolute minimum.
