The pear tree ‘Williams’ Bon Chrétien’ is one of the most commonly grown of all pear varieties and regularly appears in supermarkets.

It yields large, golden fruit with a soft, non-gritty texture and exceptionally sweet taste, popularly eaten as a dessert fruit.

A mid-season flowerer, it is easily pollinated and is even partially self-fertile. It will still bear a (smaller) crop without nearby pear trees. Pear trees produce their best crops when grown in well-drained soil in full sun but sheltered from strong winds.

Pear trees, like apple trees, are easy to grow and can be trained to different sizes and growth patterns as garden size and situation require. They bear attractive blossom when in season, which must be chosen to match the blossoming schedules of other nearby pear trees so that pollination ensures a bumper crop.
